Associate Professor Dr. Zahari Hamidon serves as the Head of the Centre for Learning Technology and as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, Open University Malaysia. With a strong academic background in Art and Design (Fine Art) from MARA University of Technology (UiTM), Malaysia, and advanced degrees in Computer in Education (M.Ed.) and Instructional Technology (Ph.D.) from the University of Malaya, his career has spanned over three decades. Beginning his journey in the mid-1980s as a teacher, he has since evolved into roles such as lecturer, instructional designer, and researcher, making significant contributions both nationally and internationally, including at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Dr. Hamidon’s expertise in instructional design, virtual learning, interface design, and digital media has been acknowledged through his leadership and participation in numerous global research projects, workshops, and seminars. His research interests focus on enhancing user experience and learning efficacy through technology and include MOOCs, cognitive load theory, 3D animation, usability studies, experiential learning, and currently, AI in education. His dedication to advancing instructional technology and design is also demonstrated by his extensive publication record, his supervisory roles in PhD and EdD programs, and his work as an external examiner and consultant in the fields of educational technology and art design.
